Most photographers spend a lifetime studying light and composition. The great ones go beyond the obvious surface attributes and dig deeply into the intrinsic nature of their subjects to reveal hidden dimensions.
Still life photographer, Hacob, it could be said invites us to join him on a visual adventure as he breathes life into his subject matter. His work takes us to another level of appreciation where a simple pair of sunglasses take wing, an elegant fountain pen dances, and the ordinary transcend their utility to become objects of art and desire. In his own words, Hacob, an Art Center graduate and now an instructor there, is quoted as having said, "There is the love of taking the mundane and turning it into something heroic, or giving it a different life; a life that object was not meant to have."
His unique approach is one of exploring visual irony and juxtaposition, where the paint brush is itself being painted, and an ice cream cone is topped by a tornado of swirling water. His world is one in which, "...objects become the canvas, and the light is considered as the paint." Light seems to pour out of, instead of settling on top of, challenging our perceptions while elevating and delighting our senses.
